Las Palmas’ winless streak against Real Sociedad stretched to eight matches following a 3-1 defeat at Estadio de Gran Canaria, leaving them firmly in the relegation zone.
Despite entering the match without a win in their last 11 league games, the hosts faced an early setback, conceding a goal just five minutes into the match.
Ander Barrenetxea was the architect of the danger, cutting inside before taking a shot at Las Palmas goalkeeper Dinko Horkas.
The Croatian keeper should have done better, parrying the ball straight to Mikel Oyarzabal, who made no mistake in tapping it into the empty net.
Though Las Palmas were shaken by the early goal, they quickly responded and almost leveled the score when Oli McBurnie found himself through on goal.
However, still searching for his first La Liga goal of the season, McBurnie hesitated and lost the ball to Alex Remiro as he tried to round the goalkeeper.
Fabio Silva led the charge for the hosts with five attempts in the first half, the closest coming on the brink of half-time. Silva struck the ball hard against the crossbar from close range, leaving the home fans frustrated.
After the break, Las Palmas pushed forward, but their task became even more daunting in the 56th minute.
Barrenetxea broke free on the left wing and delivered a perfect cross that Sergio Gomez easily tapped home at the far post to double the lead for Sociedad.
With the deficit now at two goals, Las Palmas’ hopes of a comeback looked slim. However, McBurnie reignited those hopes when he scored from close range after Silva’s brilliant dribble sliced through the defense.
But just eight minutes after Las Palmas had reduced the deficit, La Real quickly restored their two-goal advantage.
Jon Aramburu pounced on some careless defending to collect a loose ball and fire home his first-ever goal for Sociedad, effectively sealing the victory and putting the match beyond reach for the hosts.
The win keeps Sociedad’s slim European hopes alive, moving them within six points of the top six.
For Las Palmas, the defeat extends their winless run to 12 league games in 2025, leaving them four points from safety with only eight matches remaining.
