The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has announced June 26-27, 2024, as the dates for its councilorship and chairmanship primary elections.
The party will use primary elections and ratifications to select its candidates for the forthcoming local council elections.
According to a statement by the party’s spokesman, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the decision reflects the party’s commitment to true democracy and the protection of aspirants’ rights.
The party has also fixed nomination form fees for aspirants, with chairmanship forms costing N100,000 and councilorship forms costing N25,000.
Female and physically challenged aspirants will receive a 50% discount on the fees, according to Daily Post.
The sale of forms will begin on June 22 and end on June 25, with all completed forms due back at the state office by June 25.
This move aims to promote gender inclusion and diversity in the party’s election program.
“The sale of forms for those interested in Chairmanship and Councillorship seats will commence 22nd June, 2024, and will close on 25th June, 2024.
“By implication, all forms collected by aspirants must be filled and returned to the state office no later than Tuesday, 25th June, 2024.
“Additionally, female and the physically challenged aspirants are to pay 50% of the above rates for the nominations and the expressions of interest forms.
“This measure aims to encourage gender inclusions and deepen the inclusion of various strata of our society in the PDP’s programme for these elections,” the statement stated.
