The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of an Israeli national, Mr. Gil Itamar, from the hands of kidnappers, in a joint operation involving the military and local hunters.
In a statement released on Friday in Jalingo, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, James Leshen, shared details of the operation that led to Itamar’s freedom.
Itamar, who works with SCC Company, was abducted by armed assailants while traveling through the Atim Community along the Takum/Chanchangi road.
The attack, which occurred around 9:15 AM, took place despite him being under military escort.
The incident was swiftly reported to security authorities by a colleague, Alhaji Saidu, who sounded the alarm shortly after the abduction.
“Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Takum swiftly mobilized a team consisting of police officers, personnel from the 67 PMF, the military, and local hunters.
“A coordinated search-and-rescue mission was launched, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire with the abductors.
“Overpowered by the security forces, the kidnappers were forced to retreat, abandoning their hostage.
“Itamar was subsequently rescued at Kofai Ahmadu and is currently undergoing medical evaluation at SCC Company’s medical facility in Takum,” the police said.
The police command further assured the public that efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing, with security operatives combing strategic locations.
Commending the bravery and coordination of the rescue team, Commissioner of Police Bretet Simon reiterated the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and upholding law and order across the state.
