The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has reminded the Labour Party of his legal counselling to the party loyalists, about the process of election petition tribunal, when they were requesting for cancellation of May 29 inauguration.
The All Progressives Congress’ Chieftain, made this move while reacting on Saturday, after the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi, requested seven weeks to call 50 witnesses to prove his case against the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Obi had made the request through his legal representation on Saturday during the continuation of the pre-hearing case before the presidential election tribunal headed by Justice Haruna Tsammani.
The former Anambra state governor and his party, planned to present the 50 witnesses, who will be testifying for 30 minutes in the court, excluding the time for any electronic demonstration of evidence.
The petioners’ lawyer, Awa Kalu SAN, who made this request during the pre-hearing session of their petition on Saturday, said the it was made because, his clients are still facing some hindrances in their relationship with the Independent National Electoral Commission, noting that that they have not been able to carry out forensic examination on the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, used during the February 25 presidential election and also yet to receive some documents requested from the electoral umpire.
Reacting through his Twitter handle, Keyamo, who had earlier about a week ago, educated the party loyalists, who were urging the tribunal to cancel May 29 inauguration and upturn the victory of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, reminded them of his explanation that the election Petition Tribunal will follow a due process, and will not rush in determining the outcome of the election petition before May 29, as requested by the party loyalists, because the oppositions will need more time to prove their cases.
Reminding them of his explanation on how the tribunal works, the former Lagos human rights lawyer, the process is gradually unfolding and in the fullness of time, the truths will be separated from fantasies.
“More than a week ago, I tried to educate some of those calling for the ‘instant’ determination of the Presidential Election Petitions before May 29th that it is even the Petitioners that would need more time to prove their cases.
“Shockingly, some supposedly ‘learned’ fellows goaded the mob to believe otherwise. Now, they can see the process as it unfolds IN REALITY.
“In the fullness of time, we shall separate the truths from the fantasies,” he tweeted.
