The Peoples Redemption Party’s governorship candidate in Katsina State, Omrana Jino, has vowed to take legal action against the federal government over the lingering national grid collapse that has plunged Northern Nigeria into darkness.
At a press conference in Katsina on Tuesday, Jino criticized the government’s response to the blackout, describing it as inadequate and unacceptable.
He emphasized the severe impact of the power outage on daily life, businesses, and socio-economic activities across the northern region, according to Leadership.
Jino held the federal government accountable for the failure and demanded justice for the victims. He urged those affected by the blackout to register their information on his social media platform, intending to gather evidence for a potential legal case.
The candidate also targeted the Kano Electricity Distribution Company and the Consumer Protection Council, stating that they would face legal action alongside the federal government. Jino seeks to secure justice for the people affected by the prolonged power outage.
Additionally, Jino criticized the Katsina State Government for neglecting the people’s needs and prioritizing unnecessary projects. He cited excessive spending on ring road construction projects that were not included in the state’s 2024 budget.
Jino assured that he would continue to monitor the state budget’s performance to promote the welfare of the people. His stance highlights concerns about transparency and accountability in the state’s spending habits.
The national grid collapse has caused widespread disruptions, and Jino’s threat of legal action adds pressure on the federal government to address the issue. The situation remains a significant challenge for Northern Nigeria, with residents eagerly awaiting a resolution.
“We hold the federal government accountable for this failure and demand justice for the victims,” Jino stated.
