The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission has announced that local government elections will take place on November 30, 2024.
Chairman Sani Malumfashi made the announcement on Wednesday during a press conference, stating that the notification of the election will be issued on November 15.
Malumfashi explained that nomination forms will be available from October 1 to October 11, with submissions due by October 18, according to Channels TV.
The screening of candidates is scheduled to take place from October 18 to October 20, after which the list of eligible candidates will be released on October 24.
The commission plans to release the results of the winners by December 10, 2024.
Malumfashi assured that the elections will be conducted in strict compliance with the law, citing the relevant sections of the Electoral Act and Kano Local Government Law that empower the commission to conduct the elections.
The local government elections are being held following a recent Supreme Court judgment that granted financial autonomy to local governments in the state.
