The 2023 governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party in Kano State, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, has defected to the All Progressive Congress.
He made the announcement on Wednesday in a statement via his X handle, stating that he was invited to return to the APC, which he gladly accepted and withdrew his membership from the PRP.
Yakasai, who was a former member of the APC and former media aide to the then Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who is now the national Chairman of the APC, said he would give his best to consolidate gains of the APC.
In the March 18 governorship election, he contested against Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, who won the election and Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the APC, who were his major contenders in the race.
He wrote, “The National Chairman of the APC His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR, has requested me to return to the APC and continue to give my best in consolidating the gains of the party from top to bottom, which I have gladly accepted. I’ve withdrawn my membership from the PRP and will rejoin the APC.”
Yakasai was born 5 December 1925. He is a Nigerian politician, human rights activist and former Liaison Officer to President Shehu Shagari. He is also a founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum.
