The Peoples Democratic Party has elected Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya, former commissioner under Rabiu Kwankwaso as its new chairman in Kano State.
This development follows a state congress conducted by delegates.
Kibiya emerged victorious with an overwhelming majority, securing 3,964 votes against his opponent Nura Nuhu’s 244 votes. His election marks a significant milestone for the party, which had been without executive members for over two years, according to Nigerian Tribune.
As the new chairman, Kibiya is poised to lead the party’s revitalization efforts in Kano State. His leadership is expected to usher in a new era of transparency and inclusiveness.
The election also saw the swearing-in of 39 newly elected state party leaders. Barrister Abdul Fatah Muhammad administered the oath of office to the new executives.
According to party officials, the new leadership is committed to strengthening the PDP’s presence in Kano State. This move is seen as strategic ahead of upcoming political activities.
PDP chieftains, including Senator Hayatou Gwarzo, expressed optimism about the party’s future prospects. Gwarzo noted that Nigerians are increasingly dissatisfied with the current economic challenges under the All Progressives Congress and believe the PDP is the only party capable of addressing their aspirations for positive change.
With renewed leadership and determination, the PDP aims to capture the central government in 2027.
Professor Faruk also dismissed rumors of factionalism within the party, stating, “We don’t have time for any crisis now because we would be at the receiving end.
“We are competing to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and we cannot do that if we are weak internally.”
