Representative Rabiu Takai from Kano’s Takai/Sumaila federal constituency in the House of Representatives has refuted recent reports concerning his position on the Samoa Agreement.
In a press statement released on Sunday, the lawmaker denounced the reports as misleading and reaffirmed his commitment to the cultural values, religious beliefs, and social welfare of his constituents in Takai and Sumaila areas of Kano State.
The Samoa Agreement, a successor to the Cotonou Agreement signed in 2000, aims to establish a comprehensive framework for relations between the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States and the European Union, fostering cooperation across various sectors.
Expressing concern over the alleged misrepresentation of his stance on the agreement, Takai urged Nigerians to recognize its potential benefits. He stressed the importance of thoroughly assessing the agreement’s provisions before forming conclusions and urged the public to disregard false accusations published by a newspaper.
“I categorically deny the claims made by the online newspaper. As a representative of the people of Kano, I remain dedicated to preserving our religious and cultural values,” Takai stated.
The European Union and its member states recently signed the Samoa Agreement on November 15, 2023, in Apia, Samoa. This agreement serves as a framework for their future relationship spanning the next two decades, emphasizing mutual cooperation and development goals.
