A Federal High Court in Kano has ruled in favor of the deposed Kano Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, awarding him N10 million in damages for the breach of his fundamental rights.
The court found that the Kano State Governor’s directives to arrest the emir without lawful justification violated his personal liberty and freedom of movement.
Justice Amobeda delivered the ruling on Friday, marking a significant development in the legal battle of the deposed emir.
The details of the ruling are still emerging, but this decision is seen as a major victory for Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.
Recall that Justice Liman Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Kano, on Thursday, ruled that it has the jurisdiction to hear the case instituted by a traditional title holder in Kano Emirate, Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, regarding the dethronement of Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th Emir of Kano by the Kano State government, according to Leadership.
The ruling comes just days after a Kano State High Court ordered a substituted service on Bayero and four other dethroned Emirs in Kano State in a related case filed by the state government.
Justice Mohammed’s ruling affirmed that Bayero’s case can proceed before it, to ensure that he has the opportunity to contest the legality of his dethronement.
