Nigerian Rapper, Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as, Odumodublvck, has accused the organizers of the Headies Award of putting off his microphone during his acceptance speech because he mentioned the name “Jesus”.
At the 17th Headies Awards in Lagos on April 27, 2025, Odumodublvck found himself at the centre of a dramatic onstage confrontation when organisers cut his microphone mid-speech.
The “Next Rated Artist” winner refused to leave the stage until his mic was restored, and later took to Instagram to accuse the awards body of attempting to censor his religious message.
In a series of posts, he insisted he faced no backlash for secular topics and celebrated the eventual restoration of his voice to “spread the gospel.”
At the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, the 17th Headies Awards unfolded under the theme “Back to Base,” with Nancy Isime as host.
During the Next Rated Artist presentation, Odumodublvck, flanked by his mother and entourage, began his acceptance speech when organisers abruptly turned off his microphone, reportedly due to time constraints.
Undeterred, the rapper stood firm on stage—drawing cheers from the audience—and refused to leave until his mic was reactivated.
The tense stand-off was captured on video, quickly going viral across social media platforms.
The interruption occurred just after he had thanked God for defying naysayers and lauding his faith.
In a follow-up post on Instagram, Odumodublvck explained the reason for his bold stance. “I WAS TALKING ABOUT JESUS AND THEY TRIED TO SHUT ME DOWN,” he wrote, accusing the organisers of censoring his faith-based message.
He contrasted this with what he believed would have happened had he mentioned a political figure: “I AM HUNDRED PERCENT SURE THAT IF I WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CUT OFF”.
Despite the confrontation, he emphasised that he bore “no bad blood towards the Headies,” expressing gratitude that “they put my mic back on to spread the gospel”.
He concluded with a firm declaration of faith: “JESUS IS KING. HE IS BEFORE NOW AND FOREVER”
