The Governors of Nigeria’s 19 Northern States, on Monday, along with key traditional rulers from the region, convened at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna to discuss critical issues affecting Northern Nigeria.
This strategic meeting, organized by the Northern States Governors’ Forum, was led by its Chairman, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, and hosted by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
The gathering focused on pressing challenges such as insecurity, poverty, and the high number of out-of-school children, alongside other socio-economic concerns impacting the region.
The event saw the attendance of governors from Kaduna, Gombe, Zamfara, Nasarawa, Borno, Bauchi, Kwara, and Adamawa, with deputy governors representing other Northern states.
Traditional leaders present included notable figures such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad; Shehu of Borno, Umar El-Kanemi; Emir of Zazzau, Nuhu Bamali; and the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, among others.
During the meeting, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, provided an update on the military’s ongoing strategies and achievements in tackling the region’s security challenges, including banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violence.
The traditional rulers contributed valuable insights on the socio-cultural aspects of these issues, emphasizing the essential role of community leadership in promoting peace and stability across Northern Nigeria.
In their opening remarks, Governors Yahaya and Sani highlighted the need for collaborative efforts, underscoring the urgency of tackling insecurity to protect and revitalize the region’s economic well-being.
