The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday confirmed Asue Ighodalo as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the 2024 Edo State governorship election.
Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment on a case (marked CS/469/24) filed by Philip Shaibu, who challenged Ighodalo’s nomination.
The court dismissed Shaibu’s case, stating that Ighodalo was properly nominated during the party’s primary election held on February 22, 2024, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
At the primaries, Ighodalo won with 577 votes, defeating Shaibu and 10 other candidates. The court found that Shaibu’s claims lacked merit and that there was no sufficient evidence to prove that Ighodalo had forged his voter’s card. Additionally, the court ruled that the case was statute-barred and struck it out.
Justice Omotosho concluded that “Ighodalo was duly nominated during the party’s primary election.”
