Oyo State House of Assembly has assured Oyo state residents that they would put more effort to ensuring environmental safety precautions are put in place to avoid another explosive scenario in the state.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, gave this assurance on Wednesday, while speaking with newsmen at the scene of the incident.
Our correspondent reported that the speaker visited the incident scene to see the aftermath of the explosion, even as concerned agencies were on ground to rescue survivors and evacuate casualties.
As at the time of filing this report, Governor Seyi Makinde has also visited the scene for inspection.
Ogundoyin said, “We are saddened by this incident. Be rest assured that the whole state machineries, well-meaning Nigerians, especially, the indigenes of Oyo state have put their efforts together to see that the first thing is the rescue mission. We have to ensure that the lives are first secured then we also have to do an assessment of the damages done, to the properties of the people living in this area.
“So, we are also appealing to the general population to help us in any way possible but most importantly, to give the agencies that this incident concerns space and allowance for them to do their own role.
“But we, the Oyo State House of Assembly are saddened by this and this has also geared us even more to ensure that environmental safety precautions are put in place to ensure that situations like this don’t occur again.”
