The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed that even 200 years would be insufficient for him to address the numerous challenges facing the nation’s capital.
He made the remark during the Ministerial Sectoral Updates in Abuja, part of the activities marking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s one-year anniversary in office.
The former Rivers State Governor hinted the need for continuity in government, highlighting that his tenure will eventually come to an end, and another individual will take over and build upon his accomplishments, according to Daily Post.
This sentiment was shared during the first session of the Sectoral Briefing, which brought together various ministers, including Senator Atiku Bagudu, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim Bio, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, Dr. Mariya Mahmud, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and Mr. Ayodele Olawande.
The Minister’s remarks underscored the complexity and depth of the issues plaguing the Federal Capital Territory, emphasizing the need for sustained efforts and collaborative governance to drive meaningful progress.
“Even if I’m FCT minister for 200 years, I cannot solve the whole problem. You’ll contribute your own to the best of your knowledge and when another person comes, they continue from where you stop.
“After all, government is a continuum. That’s why Mr President told me, ‘all these projects littered everywhere, you cannot go and start new projects. We had to focus on finishing the abandoned projects’,” Wike said.
