The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has carried out the seizure and destruction of 51 cartons of alcohol and 18 jerrycans of methylene chloride, a substance popularly referred to as Madarar Sukurdai, across various locations in the state.
This operation was conducted in line with the state’s legal provisions and adherence to Islamic principles, which prohibit the consumption and sale of alcohol and similar intoxicants.
Revealing this in a statement on Wednesday, the Commission’s Chairman, Yahuza Abubakar, provided insights into the commission’s broader efforts.
According to Abubakar, Hisbah was instrumental in resolving 565 different cases in the past year.
“These,” he noted, “included family problems, business disagreements, inheritance issues, fights between communities, unpaid rents, farmer-herder disputes, and other forms of debt.”
“Most of these cases were resolved amicably through reconciliation and understanding,” he added.
