In order to support Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s reelection campaign, the Lagos State Chapter of the Asiwaju Beyond 2023 says it has planned to cast 15,000 votes by March 11.
At the preliminary polls review meeting conducted on Saturday at the organization’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, Mr. Lanre Olaide, the State Co-ordinator, made this announcement.
Olaide maintained that the goal of the grassroots voter mobilization group’s earlier “Project Beyond 2023” strategy was to support the governor’s ongoing efforts to advance the state’s development.
The incumbent All Progressives Congress candidate for governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is up for reelection in May 2023.
Olaide added that the organisation had made significant contributions to increase Sen. Bola Ahmed-support Tinubu’s during the Feb. 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
According to The News Agency of Nigeria, the study was conducted by the group to assess how it performed during the presidential and National Assembly elections in order to close any gaps and ensure a more successful conclusion for the upcoming elections on March 11.
Olaide stated that the group has split the state into districts and assigned no fewer than 300 of its members to cast 100 votes in the election on March 11.
He added that the group had taken individual reports of what transpired during the previous election during the review meeting and had instructed members on how to persuade individuals to vote for a particular candidate.
Olaide revealed that the “Project Beyond 2023” executive had been disbanded as a result of the election of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu as the new president.
He said that the organization for the final round of the March 11 general election will only be under the supervision of the body’s Caretaker Committee.
He said, “We have a target of 15,000 votes that we have mapped out strategies on how to achieve it by deploying our members to canvas house to house for the needed votes in the districts.”
The Group’s Women Leader, Mrs. Kehinde Okewo, spoke at the occasion as well saying the organization had made great strides in mobilizing Lagos’s grassroots voters and would not give up during the March 11 elections in order to establish its control.
She referred to the group as one that candidates depend on and gave its members directions to use the knowledge they had gained from various trainings to help the organization reach its goal of 15,000 votes.
