In a historic agreement, Germany has signed a deal to acquire the Israeli-made Arrow 3 hypersonic missile system, marking a significant advancement in Europe’s defense against air attacks.
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, alongside his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant, announced the deal, which is valued at approximately $3.5 billion (3.3 billion euros).
This sale represents the largest-ever deal for Israel’s military industry.
The Arrow 3 system is set to enhance Germany’s air defense capabilities for future security challenges.
Germany has taken a leading role in advocating for NATO’s air defense strengthening in Europe, particularly in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year, encouraging allied nations to jointly invest in deterrence systems.
“We can see with the daily Russian attacks on Ukraine how important anti-air defence is,” Pistorius said.
The signing of the deal was a “moving event for every Jew”, looking back at the events of the Holocaust, Gallant said.
“Only 80 years since the end of the Second World War yet Israel and Germany join hands today in building a safer future,” he said.
