Full List: Billboard crowns Nicki Minaj as queen of female rappers

Trinidadian rap superstar, Nicki Minaj, has been crowned the greatest female rapper of all time, according to a new ranking by Billboard.

In a list curated by the publication’s staff, 25 of the most iconic female MCs spanning four decades of American hip hop were honoured for their contributions to the genre.

Among the notable names is Grammy winner Doechii, who, despite only rising to prominence within the past year, clinched the No. 24 spot on the list.

Rappers like Latto, GloRilla, Doja Cat, and Megan Thee Stallion also earned their places, thanks to their impressive impact on modern hip hop and influence over the past decade.

Cardi B, the Bronx-born hitmaker behind Invasion of Privacy, landed just outside the top 10 at No. 11. Her debut album is regarded as one of the most defining rap projects of all time.

Veteran MCs Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliott were ranked No. 3 and No. 2 respectively, a decision that sparked a mix of reactions from fans, especially those who believe Hill, whose classic The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill earned the 1999 Grammy Album of the Year, deserved a higher placement.

At the very top of the list stands Nicki Minaj, affectionately dubbed The Queen. Her near 20-year run in hip hop has continually challenged the boundaries of what it means to be a female rapper.

“She’s the first female rapper to eclipse triple-digit Billboard Hot 100 hits in 2018 with 149 entries to her name as of publishing,” Billboard highlights in what captures her strides as the most commercially successful female rapper of all time.
