Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt following a two-week vacation in Germany.
Fubara arrived at the international wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, around 7 PM on Friday.
A video circulating online shows the embattled governor being received by a few aides before being swiftly driven away in a waiting Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
Although his trip was officially to Germany, sources reveal that Fubara also held a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu in London during his time away.
Fubara’s return comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, following his suspension by President Tinubu.
The President had declared a state of emergency in the state, suspending Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, citing security concerns.
The federal government’s action was reportedly triggered by a wave of attacks on oil pipelines attributed to militant groups during the political standoff between Governor Fubara and 27 lawmakers allegedly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
