A fire has gutted a Federal Government warehouse in the Idu Industrial Area of Abuja, destroying valuable tools meant for the training of beneficiaries under the N-Power initiative.
The blaze, which caused significant damage, reportedly destroyed tools worth billions of Naira.
In response to the incident, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, has ordered the formation of a five-member committee to investigate the fire and assess the damage, according to Politics Nigeria.
The committee has been given two weeks to submit its findings, along with recommendations for protecting other government assets stored in warehouses across the country.
Dr. Sununu visited the site of the fire and assured the public that the ministry would expedite training for N-Power beneficiaries using the remaining tools.
He also emphasized that steps would be taken to safeguard other items in government warehouses to prevent future incidents.
The Minister thanked the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, and Julius Berger for their prompt intervention in controlling the fire.
He also commended the Nigeria Police, Life Camp Division, for providing security at the scene to prevent any looting or vandalism of the remaining items.
“The Committee will estimate the cost of the items gutted by the fire.
“With what has happened, we will put measures in place to ensure that all other items in our warehouses are well protected,” he said in a statement issued by Rhoda Ishaku, Director of Information and Public Relations.
