The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to contractors handling the Renewed Hope Housing Projects across the country, threatening to blacklist those who fail to meet expected standards or deliver on time.
According to The PUNCH, the minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, sounded the warning during a review meeting with developers working on the housing projects in various states.
According to a statement by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Salisu Haiba, Dangiwa emphasized that the era of impunity and lax performance is over.
“This administration is committed to doing things differently. Do not assume it’s business as usual.
It is not,” the minister declared. “If you signed a contract with the government, you must deliver accordingly.”
He warned that any contractor found delivering substandard work would not only be blacklisted from future housing projects but also from other federal government infrastructure contracts.
“Any defective structures identified will be pulled down, and the contractors responsible will face serious sanctions,” he added.
Dangiwa stressed that the Renewed Hope Housing Programme is more than just a construction effort.
“We are not just building houses; we are building homes,” he said. “If you collect government funds, you must deliver results. We will not fold our arms and allow incompetence or bad faith to derail the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
While acknowledging developers who have demonstrated professionalism and commitment, the minister reiterated that the government remains committed to honoring all contractual agreements, as long as quality and deadlines are respected.
He also directed federal housing controllers in the states to step up supervision at project sites, ensuring compliance with agreed standards and providing necessary oversight throughout the construction process.
The Renewed Hope Housing Programme is a central initiative of President Bola Tinubu’s administration aimed at expanding access to affordable housing and promoting inclusive growth across the country.
