Following several hours of meeting on Friday, the Federal Government has increased its offer for the new minimum wage to N62,000 from the earlier N60,000.
This development comes amid ongoing negotiations aimed at addressing the long-standing concerns over fair wages and the rising cost of living in the country.
In contrast, the organised labour, which represents a coalition of trade unions advocating for workers’ rights, is proposing a N250,000 minimum wage.
This new proposal is a significant reduction from their initial demand of N494,000, reflecting a potential willingness to compromise while still aiming for a substantial increase to meet the needs of workers.
These negotiations are part of a broader dialogue between the government and labour unions, who have been in a standoff over wage adjustments necessary to cope with economic challenges.
