A Labour Party Chieftain, Akin Osuntokun, has said the government is normalizing the tragedies caused by the previous administration of president Muhammadu Buhari.
Osuntokun said this on Monday afternoon while featuring on an Arise News interview.
While he berated the President Bola Tinubu administration as lacking in legitimacy because of how he got into office, he, however, said the president could make up for that deficit by the actions he takes in his current office.
He said, “I’m not blaming the present administration for the problems that we have, as a matter of fact, anybody preceded by somebody like Buhari, the Buhari government is easily the worst government we have had in this country, that Nigeria has had this misfortune of having.
“They are even selling crude future, the grim of debt they piled up. The NSA was saying the other day that they inherited a bankrupt economy, from all available evidence what he said is correct. The current administration is not the one that…but part of it is how they take responsibility in addressing these problems, the signals that you show, that ‘ok, I’ve identified the problems, this is how I’m going to address it’.
“In terms of who created it, there’s no doubt about the “Buhari disaster”. There’s even something going on that some people want to celebrate Buhari, no! What legacy did he leave behind. During the Christmas, how many people were slaughtered in Plateau? We are normalizing the tragedies that the Buhari government fostered on this country. “In any case there are also other aspects of it that you can talk also about. President Tinubu is the defacto and the jury president of Nigeria today, regardless of our own reservations of how he got there. The problem is that he got to the office with a deficit of legitimacy, now, by proactive measures, by the steps that he takes, he can make up for that loss of legitimacy, by what you do, by what you show yourself capable of doing, he can make up for that loss of legitimacy in his presidency but he’s not doing and I don’t see him doing that with the kind of things he’s tolerating, the kind of things he himself is initiating.
“The most fundamental way that we can remedy the Nigeria’s problem, inevitably, is constitutional reforms, without doing that we are not going anywhere, I hope that would be one of the major steps that would be taken.”
