The Federal Government in collaboration with the Benue State Government, has set up plans towards constructing resettlement homes for the Internally Displaced Persons in the state, to enable them to return to their ancestral homes.
Disclosing this at the Tiv Area Traditional Council meeting held in the Gboko area of the state, the Governor of the State, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, noted that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the state was working with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to provide decent accommodation, security, healthcare facilities and education for the victims.
According to Alia who spoke through the state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mr. Aondowase Kunde, the state government had engaged the military authorities to establish a military base in the senatorial districts in the state, to improve internal security.
However, the governor alia appealed to the Tiv Area Traditional Council to support the government’s efforts and encourage its subjects to embrace the initiative, saying that schools and hospitals will be constructed within the affected communities, to reduce out-of-school children and improve access to Medicare by the IDPs.
Speaking during the meeting, His Royal Majesty, Tor Tiv, Prof James Ayatse, commended the governor over his concern for improving the welfare of the victims.
The Monarch alleged that past administrations paid little attention to security challenges, which had rocked the Tiv Nation and other parts of the state for so long.
The paramount ruler however expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Governor Alia’s efforts, towards ameliorating the suffering of the people.
