Vehicular movement was disrupted in parts of Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday morning following multiple incidents involving fallen trees and streetlights, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has said.
According to an update posted by the agency at 7:38 a.m. on X (formerly Twitter), three streetlights collapsed along Osborne Road. While the agency noted that the situation had “no effect on traffic presently,” other locations experienced more severe impact.
“A tree fell at Bourdillon Road inward Alexandra roundabout, completely blocking the road,” LASTMA stated. “Our officers have diverted motorists to alternative routes to ease the gridlock.”
Another obstruction occurred on Alexandra Road inward Parkview Estate, where a tree fell and partially blocked the road.
“About 50% of the road was taken up by the fallen tree,” the agency added.
LASTMA confirmed that its officers are currently working to manage traffic and clear the debris. The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency has also been contacted to assist in the removal of the fallen trees.
“We urge all road users to be cautious and patient,” the traffic agency said. “Efforts are ongoing to restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.”
Motorists are advised to follow official diversions and stay updated on traffic advisories as rescue and clearing operations continue.
