The immediate past Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, has passed away at the age of 74 following a brief illness.
The news of his demise was confirmed on Sunday in Jos by the former governor of the state, Simon Lalong, who visited the late politician’s residence to commiserate with the bereaved family.
Lalong paid tribute to Tyoden, describing him as not only a dependable political partner but also a confidante, teacher, and mentor.
“He brought significant stability, wisdom, and experience to our government. He worked tirelessly to ensure that we had a successful eight-year tenure,” Lalong said.
A distinguished academic, Prof. Tyoden was a professor of political science and previously served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos.
His role as deputy governor under Lalong was marked by a reputation for integrity and intellectual depth.
