The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has announced the cancellation of the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to security concerns in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday night at his Nasarawa Mini Palace in Kano, Emir Bayero emphasized that maintaining peace and harmony among the people of Kano was more important than holding the traditional festival.
He revealed that his initial plan was to proceed with the Durbar, which would have also marked his fifth anniversary on the throne. However, he decided to cancel the event following advice from respected Islamic clerics, elders, stakeholders, and members of his council, who urged him to prioritize stability in the state.
“The peaceful coexistence of the people takes precedence over the Durbar celebration,” Emir Bayero stated.
The monarch encouraged the people of Kano to use the Sallah festivities as an opportunity to strengthen family and community ties by visiting loved ones and celebrating in a peaceful and harmonious manner.
He also prayed for Allah’s blessings and mercy upon the people of Kano, expressing hope that the period of Ramadan would bring forgiveness and divine favour.
