Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his displeasure with his successor, Governor Uba Sani, for defending the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
El-Rufai’s remarks follow Sani’s comments during a TVC interview on Monday, where the governor criticized politicians planning to form a coalition to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Gov Sani had said: “Most of these politicians that came out and say they are coming as coalition, they are politicians that were in government only less than two years ago. What did they do when they were in government? They were only fighting for power, not because they could do anything better.
“No president in the history of Nigeria has really practiced democracy like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Sani criticized these politicians, stating that many had been in power only a short time ago and had failed to make any substantial impact, focusing solely on power struggles. He further praised Tinubu, claiming that no Nigerian president had practiced democracy as effectively as the current leader.
In a response on social media the following day, El-Rufai described Governor Sani’s remarks as embarrassing and overly sycophantic. He suggested that Sani’s defense of the president was likely motivated by the recent federal government reimbursements to Kaduna State, which amounted to over N150 billion in the last 18 months.
El-Rufai implied that Sani’s actions were influenced by the financial support received from the federal government, adding that the people of Kaduna State would ultimately be the ones to judge the governor’s actions in due time.
El-Rufai wrote: “Every day I see this governor embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling, I used to wonder why? However, confirming that Federal Government ‘reimbursements, interventions and grants’ in excess of N150bn have been given selectively to Kaduna by Tinubu, in the last 18 months, now explains everything.
“By all means, defend Asiwaju for the conditional cash transfer. Asiwaju has earned it, coming from you. The people of Kaduna State will judge at the right time and place. Have a nice day.”
