The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared four individuals wanted in connection with a massive fraud scheme allegedly carried out through an online cryptocurrency platform known as Crypto Bridge Exchange.
The suspects – Seyi Oloyede, Emmanuel Uko, Adefowora Oluwanisola, and Adefowora Abiodun Olaonipekun – were named in a public notice issued on Friday by the anti-graft agency.
According to the EFCC, the four are believed to have defrauded numerous unsuspecting investors through CBEX, which is now at the center of a multi-billion-dollar investigation.
“The Commission remains committed to its mandate of eradicating financial crimes, particularly those perpetuated in the digital and crypto space,” said EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, in the notice.
The agency revealed that Oloyede and Uko were last traced to No. 166, Idimu Egbeda Road, Lagos, while Oluwanisola and Olaonipekun had previously resided at 13, Jimoh Odutola, Ogungpa, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Members of the public with any useful information about the suspects’ whereabouts have been urged to contact the EFCC through any of its zonal offices across the country.
This development follows a court order obtained by the Commission on Thursday, allowing for the arrest and detention of six individuals allegedly tied to the CBEX fraud case, which reportedly involves more than $1 billion.
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the order following an ex parte motion presented by EFCC counsel, Fadila Yusuf.
The court documents listed Adefowora Abiodun Olaonipekun, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim as those allegedly involved.
“We are pursuing this case with the seriousness it deserves,” a senior EFCC official who declined to be named said. “Crypto-related scams have become a significant threat, and we will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice.”
