The Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Campaign Council in Edo State on Wednesday has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into the recent attack at the Benin airport.
He titled the press briefing, “A Clarion call on the Inspector General of Police to stop the indiscriminate harassments, intimidation and unlawful arrest of members of PDP in Edo State by the Nigeria Police at the behest of the All Progressives Congress.”
Recall that on July 18, suspected thugs attacked Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, and Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, resulting in the death of a police inspector, according to Daily Post.
The party has expressed concerns about alleged police intimidation and harassment of its members and the fact that some APC members involved in the attack are yet to be held accountable.
The party has called on the IGP to use his office to ensure a thorough investigation, citing concerns about the integrity of the process.
The case has been transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, according to Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye.
The PDP has reiterated its demand for an unbiased investigation, emphasizing the need for justice and accountability.
“The Campaign Council urged the Inspector General of Police to maintain the high integrity that is associated with his office.
“We also admonished the IGP to note that the Police is for all Nigerians, and not an extension of the APC,” he said.
Recall, that the Commissioner of Police in the State, Funsho Adegboye said the case has been transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja.
“The case has been transfered to Abuja. Whatever observations or comments anybody has should be directed to Abuja,” he said.
