The Peoples Democratic Party has called for a full investigation into the All Progressives Congress and its Edo state governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, over the death of a police officer in Benin City on July 18, 2024.
The PDP alleges that APC leaders orchestrated violence that resulted in the officer’s death and demands justice for the “criminal and reckless show of force” by APC thugs, according to Independent.
The party rejects the APC’s offer of a scholarship to the officer’s children as an attempt to cover up their complicity and manipulate the family and public into dropping demands for a full investigation.
The PDP urges the Inspector General of Police to investigate the incident, citing pictorial and video evidence showing APC thugs were responsible for the violence.
The party commiserates with the officer’s family and urges the police to ensure those responsible do not escape justice.
PDP, in a statement by its spokesman, Hon Debo Ologunagba, said “our party insists that beyond the reported offer of scholarship to the children of the deceased policeman, the APC leaders who orchestrated the violence must face justice for the criminal and reckless show of force by their thugs which ultimately took the life of the police officer.
“Our Party restates its call on the Inspector General of Police to investigate with the preponderance of pictorial and video evidence which show that thugs allegedly mobilized by the APC to escort its Governorship candidate and other APC leaders from the Benin Airport into the city were responsible for the violence that claimed the life of the police officer,” PDP said.
