The African Action Congress candidate for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Udoh Oberaifo, has pledged to create over 300,000 jobs and pay a minimum wage of N150,000 if elected.
Oberaifo said this in an interview on Friday in Benin.
Oberaifo outlined his “Digital Edo” program, which aims to establish digital hubs across the state, generating local jobs and reducing youth migration, according to Peoples Gazette.
He also promised a massive industrial revolution plan to revitalize industries, expand manufacturing, and improve technology.
Criticizing the current minimum wage of N70,000, Oberaifo argued it cannot sustain workers, and promised to implement effective fiscal and monetary policies to boost the economy and increase internally generated revenue.
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of economic empowerment, MSME growth, sustainable communities, and agriculture development to generate billions and create jobs.
Oberaifo faulted Governor Godwin Obaseki’s poverty reduction approach and urged Edo youths to support the AAC party to bring about change in the state and Nigeria.
“Our Digital Edo programme will create digital hubs across Edo, creating 300,000 local jobs and reduce the mass exodus of youths abroad. We are also going to embark on a massive industrial revolution plan that would revitalise industries, expand manufacturing, and improve technology in the state.
“Economic empowerment and massive MSME growth are also crucial. Green Edo, climate emergency, and Eco-social justice will build sustainable communities.
“Good agriculture and food production policy will generate billions and create jobs in the state,” he stated.
