President Bola Tinubu has urged all stakeholders in the upcoming Edo governorship election, scheduled for September 21, to conduct themselves peacefully and sportingly.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of respecting the democratic process and the people’s will.
“President Tinubu emphasises that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game,” the statement read.
He also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission has committed to conducting a free and fair election and urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure a successful and peaceful process.
The President commended the governorship candidates and political parties for their campaigns, which focused on issues that mattered most to the people of Edo, such as improving livelihoods, promoting economic growth, and contributing to national development.
He encouraged citizens to remain peaceful and respectful throughout the voting process and to resolve any disagreements amicably through constituted authorities.
Moreover, President Tinubu expressed unwavering confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials.
“He urges them to remain impartial and avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement added.
This call to action aims to ensure a credible and violence-free election in Edo State.
