Christian leaders in Plateau State have announced plans to hold a peaceful protest on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, in response to the persistent killings in several communities across the state.
The protest, named the “2nd Peace Walk Against Continuous Killings,” is being coordinated by church leaders under the Christian Association of Nigeria, Plateau State chapter. It aims to draw national attention to the deadly violence that has plagued areas such as Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.
Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam, President of the Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation and a member of the protest planning committee, confirmed the event.
“In just one week, over 80 innocent people were killed in Bokkos, and more lives were lost in Bassa. We cannot remain silent in the face of these tragedies,” Para-Mallam stated. “This walk is a solemn call for peace, justice, and an end to the bloodshed that has become too frequent in our communities.”
Participants are expected to gather at 9:00 a.m. at the PRTV Roundabout in Jos and proceed to the New Government House, Little Rayfield, where they will present their demands for justice to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Organizers are urging all Christians in the state to wear black to church on Easter Sunday, April 20, and during the protest on Monday. Red and white will also be included to symbolize the need to end violence and advocate for peace.
“The black represents our collective mourning, red signifies a call to stop the killings, and white stands for our peaceful resistance to injustice,” Dr. Para-Mallam explained.
The protest follows a string of brutal attacks, including the recent killing of over 30 villagers in Bassa and 50 others in Bokkos, sparking national outrage and demands for stronger government intervention.
