Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, was on Wednesday declared unopposed as the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary election, held in the State.
Diri, an incumbent governor of the state, who was the sole aspirant for the primary election, polled a total of 305 yes votes from the delegates, to emerge as the party candidate, for the coming November 11 governorship election in the state.
The delegates of the party, across the eight local government areas of the state cast their votes to affirm the candidature of the incumbent governor, who will be contesting the state governorship election alongside other candidates from the opposition parties, in November, this year.
However, the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Election Primary Committee and Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, seek the support of the Bayelsa people for the party, during the November 11 governorship election in the state.
Expressing happiness for the conduct of the free and fair primary election in the state, Adelforefor the member’s unity, to ensure the victory of the party during the Nov 11 poll.
Addressing the delegates and party officials, shortly after his victory, Governor Diri vowed to lead the party to victory during the election, assuring that, Bayelsa State belongs to the party, judging from the outcome of the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
“In a democracy, people must be allowed to vote and the votes must count, that is why people of Bayelsa State must ensure that persons with violent tendencies are not enthroned in the governance of the State.
“Voting patterns during the just concluded general elections showed that Bayelsa State is PDP, our government has been able to bring back members who have left our party to form a united party.
“In the past three years, our government has embarked on several infrastructural projects and prioritized the civil servants, we will consolidate on what we have on the ground during our second term.
“We will continue to take necessary steps to bring shared prosperity to Bayelsa State and its people,” he said.
