The Delta State House of Assembly has approved an increased budget of ₦979 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, surpassing the ₦936 billion initially proposed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The adjustments were confirmed during Tuesday’s plenary, following a report presented by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, chaired by Hon. Marylyn Okowa-Daramola, who represents the Ika North-East constituency.
The approved budget allocates ₦630.5 billion for capital expenditure, up from the ₦587.3 billion initially proposed by the governor, reflecting the lawmakers’ intent to enhance infrastructural development. For recurrent expenditure, the House approved ₦348.76 billion, slightly increasing from the proposed ₦348.71 billion.
During the Committee of Supply session, presided over by Speaker Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the lawmakers reviewed the Money Bill clause by clause. The House then unanimously adopted the Finance Committee’s recommendations, read the bill for the third time, and passed it.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, moved the motion for the bill’s passage, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Edafe Emakpor. Speaker Guwor commended the legislators for their diligence, stating, “The approved budget aligns with global best practices and serves the collective interest of Delta State.”
Speaking to journalists, Okowa-Daramola emphasized that the increased allocation for capital expenditure was designed to bolster infrastructural projects across the state, ensuring robust development.
