The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, on Tuesday convened a strategic operational briefing with the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, alongside Service Chiefs, to assess ongoing military efforts aimed at tackling insecurity across Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions.
This was revealed in a statement released by the minister’s Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mati Ali, after the meeting, which took place at the minister’s office in Abuja.
According to the statement, the high-level session offered the minister a comprehensive update on the current security landscape, operational hurdles, and the strategies employed by the Armed Forces in addressing insurgency, banditry, and other internal security threats.
Focus areas of the briefing included the North-East, North-West, North Central, Plateau, and the South-East, regions currently grappling with serious threats ranging from Boko Haram insurgents to banditry, kidnappings, and communal violence.
“The discussions centred on boosting ongoing military operations, enhancing intelligence coordination, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring effective resource allocation to restore normalcy,” the statement read.
The statement also noted that the minister had previously visited some of the flashpoint regions, where he received real-time briefings that provided deeper insight into field realities.
Abubakar reiterated his strong commitment to ensuring that the Armed Forces are equipped with the right tools and policies to effectively secure the nation.
“We are determined to support our gallant troops with the necessary tools and policies needed to win the fight against insecurity and ensure that every Nigerian lives in safety and dignity,” he stated.
He further stressed the importance of intelligence-led and community-based approaches in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.
The minister also echoed President Bola Tinubu’s full backing of the military, pledging continued partnership to safeguard lives and property nationwide.
