The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the interception of 3,699 parcels of Cannabis Sativa across various parts of the state within the first quarter of 2025.
Speaking on Wednesday during the official handover of the illicit drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Idiroko Special Area Command, the Area Comptroller, Mr. Mohammed Shuaibu, said the contraband included 534 parcels in booklet sizes, 239 in bread sizes, and 2,926 in coconut sizes.
Shuaibu, while issuing a stern warning to those involved in the illicit drug trade, urged them to abandon illegal ventures and consider legitimate business paths instead.
“We assure those who engaged in legal businesses of our support in all aspects of their trading activities to boost the revenue generation of the country,” he added.
Receiving the consignment, NDLEA Commander Mr. Olusegun Adeyeye praised the Customs Service for the significant bust, describing it as a commendable achievement.
He said, “The seizure is a testament of the synergy between Customs and NDLEA and others sister agencies.”
Adeyeye further emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among stakeholders to combat the growing drug problem in the country.
“There is the need for all of us to fight this scourge that want to destroy the future of our youth because ‘tomorrow belongs to our youth,” he stated.
