The Federal High Court has issued a restraining order against the Department of State Service, Police, Independent National Electoral Commission, and the People’s Democratic Party from disrupting the conduct of Congresses in Rivers State.
The order, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, allows the PDP to proceed with its scheduled Congresses to elect new officers at the wards, local governments, and state levels.
The court also directed the PDP to strictly adhere to its guidelines and schedule of activities for the Congresses, and barred individuals who did not obtain nomination forms within the stipulated time from contesting elective offices or delegate positions.
The restraining order was granted following an ex-parte application filed by six PDP members in Rivers State, represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, K. C. O. Njemanze, according to Politics Nigeria.
The court has scheduled August 15 for all parties to appear for their respective defense.
This ruling comes after a Rivers State High Court previously barred the PDP from conducting its congress in the state, but Justice Lifu’s order has paved the way for the PDP to proceed with its scheduled Congresses.
