A Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the judgment in a case seeking the removal of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress to September 23, 2024.
The case was initially scheduled for judgment on September 18.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a reliable source said, “We have already called the parties on the phone to inform them of the development. A new date is next week, September 23.”
This development occurred after the court registrar informed the parties involved that the judgment was not ready.
Justice Inyang Ekwo had initially set September 18 for the judgment after hearing submissions from both sides on July 5. The plaintiff, the North Central APC Forum led by Saleh Zazzaga, filed the suit challenging Ganduje’s appointment as APC Chairman.
The plaintiff argues that Ganduje’s appointment is improper because he is not from the North Central geo-political zone, where the previous chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, was from.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, seeks several actions from the court, including restraining Ganduje from acting as APC Chairman and directing the Independent National Electoral Commission not to recognize any APC activities conducted since Ganduje’s appointment on August 3, 2023.
The plaintiff contends that Ganduje’s appointment violates the APC’s constitution, which requires the chairman to come from the North Central zone, and that it was beyond the authority of the National Executive Committee of the APC.
