The All Progressives Congress governorship primary election held in Adama State has been cancelled by the Federal High Court 1 sitting in Yola, the state capital.
Premium Politics reports that the party primary produced the Senator representing Adamawa Central, Aishatu Dahiru Binani.
However, the News Agency of Nigeria, Justice Anka declared Binani’s candidature invalid and unlawful based on suit FHC/YL/CS/12/2022 filed by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu
Recall that Binani during the primary election conducted on May 27, 2022, polled 430 votes to defeat her closest rival, Ribadu, who got 288 votes; former governor Umaru Bindow scored 103 votes; Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas got 94 votes, Safari Theman scored 21 votes and Umar Mustapha got 39.
The court also declared the party will not participate in the 2023 gubernatorial election and accordingly advised Senator Binani against parading herself as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa State.
In his ruling on Friday, Justice Anka stated that the decision was made as a result of the APC primary election’s flagrant violations of both party rules and the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution.
Ribadu, who finished second in the primary election, sued the APC governorship candidate, Aishatu Binani, the APC, and INEC.
He sought the annulment of the primary election, alleging over-voting and other electoral violations throughout the voting process.
