A financial analyst and educator, Kalu Aja, has criticized the Nigerian government’s priorities, suggesting that they should focus on addressing the country’s economic crisis rather than acquiring luxury items.
Aja compared the swift acquisition of a new presidential jet to the slow deployment of CNG buses, which could benefit the general population.
Aja made this comment in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday.
His comment comes amid widespread outrage over the purchase of a new plane for President Bola Tinubu, despite the country’s severe economic challenges.
The move has been seen as tone-deaf, especially after recent protests against rising hunger and the cost of living.
The latest increase in fuel prices, announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, has further exacerbated the situation, leading to higher transport fares and goods prices.
Aja’s statement highlights the need for the government to reassess its priorities and focus on initiatives that benefit the broader population.
“If the NASS and the presidency used the same speed and focus to deploy CNG buses as they did with the new Presidential Private Jet, we would all be in a better place,” he said.
Recall that many Nigerians reacted with outrage after a new plane was purchased for President Tinubu at a time when the economy is experiencing a severe crisis.
The purchase came less than two weeks after thousands of Nigerians took to the streets across the country to protest rising hunger and the cost of living.
