China has strongly criticised United States President Donald Trump over his threat to clear out the people of Gaza from their homeland, asserting that Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people and should not be used as a political tool.
Speaking at a press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun accused Trump of overreaching his authority, stressing that Gaza is not part of the United States. He reminded Trump that the land rightfully belongs to the Palestinian people, not to be treated as a bargaining chip in political negotiations.
“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people. It is an inalienable part of the territory of Palestine, not a bargaining chip for political games,” Jiakun stated.
He further emphasised that Palestine should not fall victim to the powerful, noting that the ongoing war has already left Gaza devastated and its people in immense suffering. He urged the international community, particularly major world powers, to contribute to the region’s rebuilding efforts rather than worsening its plight.
“The international community, major countries in particular, should join hands to make Gaza better, rather than worse, by providing humanitarian assistance and helping with its reconstruction,” Jiakun said.
Reaffirming China’s commitment to the rights of the Palestinian people, he underscored the principle of Palestinian self-governance as crucial in post-conflict Gaza. He also firmly opposed any forced displacement of its residents.
China, he added, “stands ready to work with the rest of the world for the realization of the two-state solution as the fundamental way forward, and for an early, just political settlement of the Palestinian question, namely, the establishment of an independent State of Palestine that enjoys full sovereignty based on the 1967 border and with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
