A group of youths and women from Southern Borno, under the Concerned Southern Borno Citizens has urged President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress and the Senate to reverse the decision to remove Senator Mohammed Ndume as Chief Whip.
The group, comprising various clubs and associations in Borno State, gathered at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre in Maiduguri to show solidarity with Ndume.
The National Chairman of CSBCs, Comrade Bulama Sawa, stated: “We are calling on the APC National Working Committee to reconsider its decision, which led to the removal of our Senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume as Chief Whip, and asking him to withdraw his APC membership.”
The call comes after Ndume’s removal following his comments on Arise TV on July 12, 2024, where he highlighted the issues of hunger and insecurity under President Tinubu’s leadership. The group praised President Tinubu for initially recognizing Ndume’s capacity by appointing him as Majority Chief Whip and acknowledged Ndume’s contributions to the state and nation.
The group condemned the APC’s decision, stating: “Ndume has been a shining light in the darkness of Nigerian politics, and we are also here to pass a vote of confidence in Ndume as our Senator.”
They appealed to President Tinubu to reconsider the decision, warning that it could destroy the APC and serve as a warning to those who dare to speak the truth.
Sawa emphasized: “We appeal to President Tinubu to listen to the voice of reason and not allow political vendetta to destroy the APC.”
