United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Friday as part of his Middle East tour.
According to BBC News, the two leaders discussed the recent Hamas attack on Israel and the efforts to end the crisis and free the hostages.
Blinken said that “Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination,” according to a statement from his spokesperson Matt Miller. He also praised Jordan’s “special role in Jerusalem and as a force for stability in the region,” Miller added.
The US diplomat and the Jordanian monarch also talked about “ways to address the humanitarian needs of civilians in Gaza while Israel conducts legitimate security operations to defend itself from terrorism,” Miller said.
