Businessman Ayodeji Akinnodi has emerged as the candidate of the Action Democratic Party for the November 16 governorship election in Ondo state.
Akinnodi was selected through consensus by the party leadership, who described him as a man of competence and impeccable character, ready to change the narrative of the state.
The ADP governorship primary election took place at Alagbaka, where elected delegates of the party unanimously adopted Akinnodi as their candidate.
The exercise was conducted in the presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigeria Police, and other security agencies.
Following his adoption, Akinnodi outlined his plans to sustain and emulate the legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the areas of education, health, security, and agriculture.
He promised to prioritize education by increasing budgetary allocations, developing infrastructure, and launching sustained public reorientation programs to reduce the number of out-of-school children.
Akinnodi also pledged to work towards achieving economic integration and development between the southwest states to actualize the dreams of Awolowo and other leaders.
Addressing the challenges of insecurity, lack of infrastructure, and unemployment, Akinnodi stated, “Our people fought for the betterment of this place… This is completely unacceptable. We cannot have this kind of unsightly situation in our land and go about as if things are normal.”
The state Chairman of the party, Samuel Oladejo, commended the members for endorsing Akinnodi as the candidate, describing the exercise as one of the most credible.
Oladejo added, “We are here to witness the performance of a ceremony highlighting the ADP’s fulfillment of a constitutional requirement which makes it mandatory for us to pick our governorship candidate.”
He congratulated Akinnodi and expressed prayers for a successful journey ahead.
