A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Timi Frank, has described the “illegal declaration” of Aishatu Binani of the ruling All Progressives Congress, winner of the Adamawa State governorship election, as a coup against democracy.
This was revealed in a statement issued by the former APC Chieftain on Monday.
According to him, the bizarre manner and affront displayed by the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, during the “illegal declaration,” must be probed by the authority.
He stated that the highlights of the occurrences unfolding in the wake of the supplementary governorship elections held last Saturday established that the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission as contained in the constitution, has been extremely compromised under Prof. Mahmood Yakubu-led commission.
He claimed that, despite all the assurances of credible elections and approval of humongous amounts of money, running into hundreds of billions of naira, set aside for the conduct of the 2023 general election, the INEC chairman had consistently deceived Nigerians and their representatives in the National Assembly, with the conduct and credibility of the 2023 elections.
Expressing disappointment over the conduct of the 2023 elections, he stated that the overall assessment, of the polls, has ba bea ridiculously shambolic and utterly distasteful narrative for many Nigerians.
He revealed that “The haphazard declarations of election results and display of absolute unpreparedness suggest that only an internal coup d’etat perpetrated by fascist elements of the ruling party planted as INEC officials are responsible for the many dos enchantments experienced in the 2023 general elections.”
“This broad daylight robbery of the people’s will, orchestrated over and over again by the electoral umpire, without recourse to its own rules and guidelines only confirms that the commission has set itself as a conduit for perpetrating electoral fraud,” he said.
He noted that the result of Sunday’s action by the REC should be rebuked by all peace-loving Nigerians, especially the Adamawa people.
However, he advised the populace of Adamawa to be vigilant at this time and raise to frustrate the efforts of “criminals intending to steal their mandate under this grand conspiracy from the APC-led INEC and the Presidency in collaboration with the security agencies,” he added.
