The Benue State Elders Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has urged the party’s National Working Committee to suspend plans for a state congress scheduled for Thursday, October 3.
The committee, led by Rt. Hon. Terngu Tsegba, claims the move is an attempt to divide the party in Benue for selfish gains, according to Daily Post.
They argue that the congress would violate a Makurdi High Court order, which halted the congresses pending a hearing.
A court order, suit number MCH/350/2024 with motion number MCH/1588M/2024, was issued to stop the congresses until the motion on notice is heard and determined.
The elders committee is calling on law-abiding party members to disregard the NWC’s announcement.
The committee has also alerted the Independent National Electoral Commission to the potential infringement and urged them to avoid participating in the illegal event.
This development highlights the ongoing internal conflicts within the Benue State PDP, with factions vying for control.
The outcome of this dispute may have significant implications for the party’s unity and future electoral prospects.
