The internal crisis rocking Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has deepened as two chairmen emerge.
Recall that the party, which has been enmeshed in an internal crisis, barely five days after the inauguration of Governor Hyacinth Alia, precisely, June 5, 2023, had its then state chairman, Austin Agada purportedly suspended by eight members of his Ehaje council ward in Ogbadibo Local Government Area.
The suspension was followed by a court order restraining Agada from parading himself as the party chairman and subsequently, an acting chairman, Benjamin Omakolo was appointed by the state executive committee of the APC chaired by Governor Alia, according to the Nigerian Tribune.
In the peak of the celebration of the emergence of the acting chairman, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, vacated the court order for not following due processes and reinstated the sacked chairman (Agada).
While the party stakeholders in the state recognize Agada as the party chairman, the Alia-led cabinet is rallying support behind the acting chairman, Benjamin Omakolo.
Meanwhile, Omakolo-led team now has its secretary, Richard Mzungwe and assistant publicity secretary, Ada Inalegwu.
But the Agada-led state working committee was further strengthened two Sundays ago during the party stakeholders’ meeting with the replacement of some vacant positions as a result of resignation or death.
Among those replaced were the state secretary of the party, Donald Amokaha Gbougbor, assistant state woman leader, Margaret Adom, State legal officer, Matthew Alyebo State assistant welfare secretary, Ijirbee Iorkusu.
The state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Agada has urged the people of the state to remain resolute and keep faith with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
